HARKAMAN G. MAGAR
हर्कमान घ. मगर
Name: Harkaman G. Magar
Age: 11
Hometown: Nisi - Baglung, Nepal
Harka was born to a very poor family in a remote mountain village of
Nisi - Baglung. Baglung lies in the midhills of western Nepal and is
located on a himalayan terrace overlooking the famous, remote and one of
the holiest rivers of Nepal ‘Kali Gandaki’.
Harka lost both of his hands at the age of 9, in an accident after being
exposed to live electrical wires.
Because of their extreme poverty, Harka’s parents couldn’t afford to pay
for the continuous medical treatment and rehabilitation programme;
resulting in rapid spread of infection in both his upper limbs and
further amputation of both hands (3 operations).
Harka’s parent were forced to make the agonising decision to put him in
an institution (Disabled Centre, Kathmandu) in 2013, in the hope that he
will have a much better future, as they couldn’t afford basic care due
to his disabilities post traumatic accident that resulted in the loss of
both his hands at the age of 9. That was the last time Harka saw his
parent
Harka is a bundle of positive energy and his hobbies includes playing
football with his friends and ludo.
Harka’s sheer ability to find strength to preserve and endure in spite
of overwhelming obstacles should be an inspiration to all of us.
This sweet child will become an incredible example of compassion in his
community - I'm sure of it - but we need to help him first.
